Quincy Douby - 31 games, 35.2 mpg, 30.8 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 4.8 apg, 3.2 spg, 0.4 bpg, 2.9 TOpg, 55% FG, 39% 3PT, 91% FT
Xinjiang have kept the same two imports all season; leading from the very start and being damn near unbeatable all season, there seemed no incentive for change. Both players could conceivably be in the NBA right now; mentioning no names, there are more than a few players currently in it that are worse than these duo. Douby is second in the league in points, third in steals, and scores his points very efficiently for a perimeter player (although he is cranking up eight three pointers a game). Meanwhile, Singleton is both anchoring the defense on the interior, and scoring at a truly ridiculous level of efficiency that not even Garret Siler can rival. Shooting 237-321 from two, 19-31 from three and 140-173 from the line, for a true shooting percentage of .778%, Singleton continues to play the inside/outside game on both ends of the court that got him repeated looks in the NBA. He should probably still be there.

- Quincy Douby - Doobs started last year with the Raptors, but got waived before his contract was guaranteed. He then went to Turkey play for Darussafaka, and led the lead in scoring by 4.8ppg more than the guy in second place (Josh Shipp, 18.8ppg). The Montenegrin international is an elite scorer at levels of basketball just below the NBA, but in three and a bit years of trying to make that translate to the NBA game, he has not been successful. Nevertheless, he is still on the cusp. Aris (Greece) have been linked to him, but like all Greek teams, they're working to a budget.

Per Eurobasket.com, Montenegro have announced their latest national team squad. In it is the new guy. It would appear that unlike some of his predecessors, the new guy is going to actually play for the nation that sold him the passport. It's the noble thing to do.
The list is not a bad list. Montenegro aren't factors in the world of sport generally, but they can play basketball. They can particularly produce big men. NBA draft picks Nikola Pekovic and Slavko Vranes are listed there, as are Peja Drobnjak (who churned in a few seasons of high comedy) and Vladimir Dasic (who might be drafted this year). Former NBA draft picks no longer involved in the national team setup, but who once were, include Zarko Cabarkapa and Mladen Sekularac. There's also Dante and Galante favourite Vladimir Golubovic, as well as Milko Bjelica, a quality player with a name like a pudding. And there's always Sasha Pavlovic, which is.....cool.
However, they've struggled to find as much guard quality. Montenegro have a couple of decent guards placed in strong European leagues - Vlado Scepanovic with Murcia in Spain, Goran Jeretin with Aliaga in Turkey - but their guard production does not have the pedigree of their big man production. To counter that, two years ago, the team recruited ex-St John's point guard Omar Cook, who has played the position for the national team ever since.
And now they've added Quincy Douby
Douby started last year with the Toronto Raptors on a 25% guaranteed contract. He was waived early in the season and went to Turkey to play for Darussafaka, where he led the Turkish league in scoring by almost 5 points per game and was named a TBL All-Star, despite not playing a full season and being on the last placed team. He already had American and Dominican Republic nationality, but had played for neither national side. Now, he's going to be joining the Montenegrins.
More importantly, the passport will greatly facilitate his European career. He's probably not coming back to the NBA again, and so he might as well do this. It's mutually beneficial. Douby is trying to step up from a lower calibre Turkish team to a higher level Euroleague side, and while A.J. Milano have already passed on signing him, his new Montenegran citizenship will add to his attractiveness.

- Quincy Douby
As mentioned in an earlier post, Douby currently leads the Turkish league in scoring. He signed with the Toronto Raptors towards the end of last season, signing through 2010 with conditional guarantees along the way. He was waived in November to avoid one of these guarantees, and did not play a game for the team this season. Douby is now a member of the last placed 1-15 Turkish team Darussafaka, where he averages 21.9 points per game and yet is unable to stave off the losing. At the weekend, for example, Douby put up 23 points in 28 minutes - along with a very un-Doubyike 3 steals and 3 blocks - yet Darussafaka still lost by 26. The team's second highest scorer in that game was Jermareo Davidson. And no team should look to Jermareo Davidson to be the second leading scorer. The domestic players for Faka are not really contributing a damn thing, and that's why they are where they are.
