Robert Covington
SF, 6’9, 215lbs, 26 years old, 4 years of experience
A steady, reliable shooter and defender with NBA size, NBA skills and NBA reflexes. The two-season decline in three-point shooting percentage (down to 33.3%) and shooting under 40% from the field in each of his three full NBA seasons can be offset by the facts that the three-point shooting is coming on decent volume, and that as a fifth-option role player, he will reap the benefits of the improved quality of the options around him as much as anyone. It is possible to prevent Covington hitting free agency (see salary breakdowns on previous pages). It is hereby strongly recommended.
Player Plan: One year at the minimum salary remaining. See salaries pages for what to do next.

Houston - Robert Covington: Often set up by Canaan, Covington is pouring in 16.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 2.2 steals and 1.7 blocks per game, some nice numbers across the board. However, Covington is shooting only 41% from the field and 33% from three, while very rarely getting to the line. His faceup power forward game projects nicely in the new NBA, but without being a standout defensively, the jump-shot needs to be of at least the next level up. Nevertheless, Covington is productive, fluid and fairly polished.

Robert Covington
Covington has signed, or will soon be signing, a partially guaranteed deal with the Rockets. This is likely nothing more than an extremely early training camp invite, yet it is evidence of what they think of him. Averaging 15.8 points and 7.5 rebounds as a senior for Tennessee State last season, along with 2.1 steals and 1.8 blocks, Covington can be found somewhere along the oft-straddled line between small forward and power forward, operating primarily as a face-up shooter whilst best served defensively on the interior with his length and decent athleticism. He projects, then, as a face-up four. But this doesn't mean he can just disregard everything that isn't a jumpshot.
