Articles about Marcus Hubbard

November 15, 2010

78th: - Austin Toros - Marcus Hubbard, Angelo State

Hubbard is no stranger to the D-League, having played there for the last two seasons; last year he averaged 9.9 points and 6.4 rebounds on 39% shooting for the Reno Bighorns. He's also no stranger to the NBA, having signed a couple of training camp contracts in the past, and thus has had plenty of previous coverage on this site. Arbitrarily, we'll choose this bit:

Marcus Hubbard is a D-League veteran, one time Hawk and one time Buck, who is an athletic 6'9 face-up power forward. (Such is the trend in the KBL, it appears.) He has spent most of his professional career in the D-League; last year in 21 games for the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, Hubbard averaged 7.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per game on 37% shooting. Hubbard is athletic, but all he really uses that for is to rebound and get elevation to take a lot of long two point jumpshots.

That was taken from a review of the 2010 KBL Draft. In that draft, Hubbard was picked by the LG Sakers, but was released in preseason after disappointing performances and was replaced by another D-League veteran, T.J. Cummings.

- Marcus Hubbard

Like Howard, Hubbard is in the D-League. Like Howard, Hubbard has had training camp contracts the last two seasons; with the Hawks in 2008 and the Bucks in 2009. But unlike Howard, Hubbard is on the cusp of nothing. In 37 games this season, 17 with the Reno Bighorns and 20 with the Albuquerque Thunderbirds, Hubbard is averaging 8.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game. But to get those numbers, he's shooting only .376% from the field, with 312 points on 314 shots. And that's a 6'9 forward. Hubbard is athletic, but all he really uses that for is to get elevation to take a lot of long twos. And that's not getting it done.
